The Round Trip screen is used in logistics management to handle and record trips where the vehicle (typically a truck) returns to its starting point after completing its deliveries or tasks. The main purpose is to consolidate, track and manage trips that follow a round-trip pattern, improving efficiency in the planning and tracking of logistics operations.
When to utilize the Round Trip Screen in the Workflow
The Round Trip screen is used at a specific point in the logistics workflow, typical ly after a truck has completed its outward journey (or part of a journey) and is set to return to its origin, often loaded with return goods or on areverse logistics assignment.
- Trip Planning:
After scheduling the truck's first trip and completing delivery tasks, logistics planners assess whether the truck will be returning or proceeding on a new journey.
Assigning Return Loads: At this stage, the round trip records allow you to assign and track any new deliveries or pickup that the truck will handle on its return journey.
**Trip Closure:* After the return journey is complete, the round trip record is updated, ensuring the entire cycle (outward and return trips) is documented and closed.
Mandatory Prerequisites
Before utilizining the Round Trip screen, certain prerequisitess must be met to ensure the round trip can be created and tracked properly.
- Manifest:
A truck must be assigned and documented in the system (via the "Truck On Trip" field).
The truck should belong to the "In House" transporter type if that's the criterion in your workflow.
- Trip
There must be an initial trip already planned, and it should be in draft status (with docstatus = 0).
The trip should not be marked as a round trip yet (i.e., the **round_trip* field must be empty).
Ideally the initial trip should have been completed or be in the progress
Ensure that there are active trips associated with the truck for selection in the "Trip Details" table on the Round Trip Screen.
